I do not have any stats but Astro turf got a bad name back when it was relativly new the old fields had very little coussion and many multi purpos stadiems had the nasty seems that were a hazard in themselfs.......The UVA-Wise field is softer than many of the grass fields in our area (other than the turf burns which are a pain)......That being said on most fields the ground will give befor a joint (ankles are most common) however Sloppy fields tend result in alot more Hamstring and Growing pulls as well as Knee injurys

Fewer injuries
When the original artificial turf surfaces were introduced more than 30 years ago, a quickly built body of evidence suggested that natural playing surfaces were safer because their use resulted in fewer injuries, especially knee injuries.
This situation has changed in recent years with the introduction of newer manufacturing and installation procedures. Some recent studies indicate that these new artificial surfaces are showing low injury rates that are a fraction of the injury rates from studies of earlier types of artificial surfaces. Surprisingly, in fact, these new rates are actually lower than the injury rates experienced on natural grass surfaces.

Those are State Title games. 8 out of 12 teams are playing on college fields. That is a huge difference because of those 8 four are AA and the other 4 are AAA. The 4 teams in AA playing on a college Field are in the same classification as well as the 4 AAA teams. In the Region Title games only 4 out of 48 play on a non regulation field. In the State games all AA and AAA teams play on college fields making it somewhat uniform. In the Region Title games in single A alone 4 out of 16 play on a college field. How is it fair to a team if they were to lose a game by missing a field goal on a non regulation field that would have been good and won them the title if it were on a HS regulation field when no other Region in Single A is playing on a non regulation field? In fact Region D is the only Region in the state that FORCES their teams to play on a NON REGULATION FIELD.

the 04 state title game for Single A Div 2 was at JMU, a college field, correct?

Why not give the kids a week to get accustomed to playing on a field with wider hashes?

Look, a majority of the Region D principals agreed on this. Just because one school does not like it, doesnt mean its right to move it. Its not fair to cater to the wants of one fan base, no matter how they justify it.

On a College Field from sideline to hashes is 60 feet. From hash to hash the distance is 40 feet.

On a High School Field the distances are 53 feet 4 inches from sideline to hash marks and 53 feet 4 inches from hash to hash in the middle.

Yep JMU was a college site and ALL SINGLE A SCHOOLS THAT PLAYED FOR A SINGLE A TITLE PLAYED THERE. Also it is not just one school. Region D is breaking NFHS regulations by playing on that field at Wise. ONLY 4 TEAMS OUT OF 16 IN SINGLE A ARE PLAYING FOR A REGION TITLE ON A NON REGULATION FIELD. What part do you not get about NON REGULATION HS FIELD THAT ONLY 4 OUT OF 16 SINGLE A TEAMS ARE FORCED TO PLAY ON? ITS NOT FAIR TO FORCE TEAMS TO PLAY ON A NON HS REGULATION FIELD WHEN NO OTHER REGION IN SINGLE A DOES! A GOOD TEAM COULD GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT A REGION TITLE. THE STATE TITLE IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL AND ALL SINGLE A TEAMS SHOULD BE PLAYING ON THE SAME REGULATION SURFACES TO GET THERE! WHY DOES REGION D HAVE TO BE THE ODD BALL?

Wow, the more you yell and scream and whine, the more you look like a bitter bitter man.

Why is this such a big deal to you?

The REGION D PRINCIPALS, THE REGION D PRINCIPALS THE REGION D PRINCIPALS!!! voted for this. a MAJORITY of them voted to play at UVAW. If GC has such a problem with the way Region D does things, its simple. LEAVE!

It was a majority decision. Its a democracy. Its not whatever GC wants. The whole region voted, and the games are at Wise.

Just because GC is crying about it, does not mean the whole region should change at the request of one school.

But Region D is not above the NFHS and that is why things are about to change. I dont know why I am yelling. I do know change is coming to make all of VHSL equall. Region D Principals can vote all they like but they can not change the NFHS Regulations. I found that out the other day. I am truely done this time with arguing about it on here. It will soon be a done deal on what is coming and I am very happy.;)
